About Me


Erdem Helvacıoğlu is an acclaimed film composer, sound designer, music producer, guitarist, and educator currently based in New York.
Helvacıoğlu has composed original scores for over 20 feature-length documentaries, narrative films, and shorts. His compositions have been featured at internationally renowned film festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Locarno, and Istanbul. Notably, the short film
Boreas (directed by Belma Baş), which he scored, was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. His score for Seaburners (directed by Melisa Önel), which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014, was described by The Hollywood Reporter as an “outstanding soundwork.”
In the realm of electroacoustic music, Helvacıoğlu has received international recognition, winning awards from prestigious competitions such as Luigi Russolo, MUSICA NOVA, and Insulae Electronicae.
As a producer and mixing/mastering engineer, he has collaborated with an array of globally recognized artists, including Gorillaz, INNA, AronChupa, Sofi Tukker, Fatboy Slim, Pamela Z, Nina Persson, Harold Budd, and Monty Adkins. His solo and collaborative albums have been released on leading contemporary music labels such as New Albion, Sub Rosa, and Innova. These works have been featured in numerous “Best of the Year” lists by Guitar Player, All About Jazz, Textura, Cyclic Defrost, Blogcritics, Audio Video, Culture Catch, Exclaim!, and Perfect Sound Forever.
Helvacıoğlu currently serves as a faculty member in the Music Technology program at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
